Owing to the massive youth bulge in the country, civil society
organizations have undertaken initiatives aimed at engaging
youth so that they could also play their role in the development
of the country. CPDI believes that engaging youth on the use of
Punjab Transparency and Right to Information act 2013 will not
only help youth to use this law for public good but also give
impetus to civil society efforts for successful implementation of
law. Right to information is exercised in a particular socio-
political context. It is important that when we engage youth on
issues of right to information, they should be able to grasp
governance structures of the country. That is why CPDI is
holding four day long winter camp for youth so that intensive
training could be imparted to them in order to equip them with
right to information tools as well as make them RTI Champions
of their respective communities. Presently, CPDI is
implementing right to information related project in 4 districts
of Punjab in collaboration with Open Society Foundation
Pakistan. These are: Lahore, Sargodha, Multan and Jhang. CPDI
has held sessions with college/university level students in these
districts on right to information. In these sessions, students
were invited to write essays on right to information. Based on
their performance in writing these essays, 20 students have
been selected from these districts for Young RTI Champions for
Winter Training Camp which will be held from January 14 to
January 17, 2016. It is expected that after this intensive training,
these young students will become RTI Champions and use RTI as
a tool public good of their respective communities.
